Suyog

- Samarpit Prakash
The girl to my next door was having a conversation with someone whom I didn't know. Their conversation was audible to me. They might have some quarrels or any disagreement over something. I wondered why people love quietly and fight so loudly. At first I didn't realize what it was about but they were talking so loudly that I was compelled to know about it.
Her name was Seema. She was from Ilam, an eastern hilly part of Nepal, a day distance from Kathmandu when one would go by bus. One might call her pretty from her face and body posture, fair complexioned skin and slim figure. I would never talk to her except saying "Good Morning" if our eyes encountered someday. I just knew she was my neighbour and I think she did same but we seldom came closer to share each other's stuffs.

'What the hell your family! it's your life. How could your family decide over your life?' The man exclaimed. 'I can't deny that proposal, my father had always dreamed me to marry a doctor. See, I love you, and love doesn't necessarily ends in marriage.' She said.
'See, we will be happy with less. Let's escape away.' he said.
'No I can't. My elder sister did same, father hasn't talked to her till now nor he has called her home. How would I bear my family's curse?'
'Why didn't you think earlier? Now you are telling me all this, ridiculous.' He said.
'That's not it only, you have no plans for life, you don't know what you are doing for your future. Life isn't easy as you think Suyog.' She replied.
'You didn't consider this when you loved me. Please Seema, I would do something to earn a living. We will be happy together. You forgot all those memories, how we first met, our first date, our first kiss....'
'Come on, grow up Suyog, everyone does that these days, that is common now a days. And listen, these things won't feed you up. Also you are not of my caste, my parents would never allow me to marry you.'
'So, its all about this humm...., you ended up in caste now.'
'Sorry Suyog, it's over now,' She said.
I could hear the boy sobering like a baby.
I was being late for work so I decided to ignore it, after all it was their life. So I rushed and vanished from there.

After some days Seema handed a wedding card to me, written "Suyog weds Seema", quite surprising to me. I thought it was the same guy earlier. I was astonished to hear that stuff. I didn't know what twist was there in thieir love. I was curious to know what made Seema to marry him but it was simply a stupidity to ask her. I had no interest to attend her marriage but that eagerness led me there.
So , I decided to go to Ilam just to know how everything was solved. I reached in the given address in Ilam. None seemed to care me because it was just Seema who would know me but I somehow managed to go in the ceremony. After a lot of talks with strangers I realised all my effort went in vain to know about their reunion.
He wasn't that Soyog whom Seema was getting married, he was Dr. Suyog. I remembered my grandma saying, "This is Kaliyug beta, everything goes contrary these days."
